Curriculum Design and Development for the Whole Learner in PK-12 Gifted Education Programs

This professional development session focuses on designing and developing effective and engaging curricula in PK-12 gifted education programs. Gifted learners are diverse and have specific learning needs, both as a group and as individuals. Mindfully developed curricula can help foster creativity, a sense of purpose and belonging, social emotional learning, and 21st century skills. Integrating the arts into gifted education, specifically with STEAM curricula, nurtures the growth of the whole learner. Participants will explore foundational aspects of curriculum design and development, such as Universal Design for Learning and backward design, with an emphasis on writing outcomes that serve the whole learner in PK-12 gifted education programs. Participants will discuss avenues for enhancing opportunities for creative expression and infusing the arts and social emotional learning into the curriculum at any grade level.
